Best Buddies enhances persons with IDD lives and helps them secure rewarding jobs, live on their own, become inspirational leaders, and make lifelong meaningful relationships.
Best Buddies accomplishes its mission through seven unique programs: Best Buddies Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges, Citizens, Jobs, e-Buddies ® and BUILD (Buddies United in Leadership Development). Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 United States and operate accredited international programs in 54 countries throughout the continents. With all these programs over 800,000 persons are impacted every year.
Best Buddies was created in 1989, when Founder Anthony Kennedy Shriver observed the lack of opportunity for people with IDD to socialize with their peers without IDD. He recognized the power of one-to-one friendship to develop their self-esteem, improve their outlook on life, and their integration in society. A college student himself, Shriver knew that his peers had the energy and commitment to positively transform their communities. His inspiration to bring both groups together created the Best Buddies concept.
We are the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The Friendships Program builds friendships between persons with and without IDD. The program is developed each year during the academic period starting in September and ending in June.
The programs educates and empowers people with and without IDD to become leaders, public speakers and advocates. Best Buddies believes that its program participants can lead the effort within their community and beyond to build a more inclusive world for people with IDD.
This program at Best Buddies International secures jobs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), allowing them to earn an income, pay taxes, and continuously and independently support themselves.
The volunteer – friend, is invited to organize with his friend two outings of common interests and once a week to have a telephone conversation.
Our scientific staff is at the disposal of the volunteer for whatever he wants.
Each year we organize multiple actions, both for the fun of young people and volunteers, as well as for the promotion of Best Buddies. Be our partner and promote Best Buddies!
You can have a profoundly positive impact on the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). There are so many ways you can advocate for the Best Buddies mission.
Are you looking for a real and true friendship? Are you an observer of social exclusion of groups and want to help eliminate it?
Then Best Buddies Greece is the right organization to create new friends with people who really need it!
The mission of the Worldwide Best Buddies Organization is to create a Global Volunteer Movement to help promote one-to-one friendship, promote professional integration and develop Leadership Standards for people with mental and developmental disabilities (AMEA).
The goal is to change our world with a real friendship between the Disabled and other citizens!
Αs we develop, our vision grows! We look forward and dream of a world with a common denominator of friendship, love and respect.
* The program applies to young people over 18 years of age
for social inclusion of people with intellectual and other developmental difficulties, for friendship and volunteering …
